Keeping it Real
Can I Push Through?
Can I Push Through?
Can I push through the pain?
Discard the rejection?
Turn from self-pity?
Tell fear it doesn’t win?
Can I be like the woman?
Broken, bleeding—yet hopeful,
Twelve years an outcast,
Asking, “God, is this Your will?”
Can I push past the people?
Weave through the crowds?
Ignore the rude glances?
Seek help ‘coz I’m not too proud?
She came from behind Jesus,
Not wanting to draw attention
Feeling unworthy and broken
Yet her faith drew her to Him.
He turned and He saw her,
He called her, “Daughter,”
He commended her faith
Which through trials did not falter.
Can I chase after my Savior?
Touch the hem of His cloak?
Let desperation drive me?
Till in His presence, I soak.
He turns and He sees me
He calls me His precious child
Can I push through rejection?
Because on the Cross for me, He died.
Reading
Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. 21 She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment. (Matthew 9:20-22)
Heavenly Father, As I navigate past hurt and rejection, help me push past the doubt and the darkness. Help me find my way to You. Help me be vulnerable enough to reach out knowing that You see me and You call me Your own. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Wow, Susan, you’re a poet too! Your poem really brings that story to life – and how it just might apply to me. Thank you!

Thank you so much, Marsha. I’m always hesitant about writing a poem as I don’t have much experience or expertise there! Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. Love, Susan
