Keeping it Real
Moms, You Are Not Enough
“Mama, you got this. You are enough.” My heart sank when I read the last lines in an article on a leading website for Christian mothers. My heart sank, because it was my article.
The article was intended to encourage moms in the trenches of raising little ones and overwhelmed by trying to do it all. When I saw the article online, though, I noticed that the last lines had been altered. The original, unedited version read, “Mama, you got this, because he has got you. You are enough, because he who is in you is enough.” The published article had left out God.
One message women, including Christian women, have heard on repeat is these three words: “You are enough.”

PS: Couldn’t be more thrilled. After several times of articles being rejected and almost making it on DesiringGod, God opened the door for me to be published on this site that I highly respect. Grace upon grace.

Hi Susan,
Loved this article. While you are writing to women & mothers I can easily transfer the principles to apply to me, a man. Well done.
By the way, I am so enjoying your Lent devotional. Yesterday’s devotional, the 25th, on Jesus crying out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” was particularly moving to me. I had never really thought that “Jesus gave up his right of intimacy with his Father” for us. It was very insightful.
Imagine, the union & intimate relationship between the Father & Son (and the Holy Spirit) that had existed for eternity was broken that day so that we could be saved. So many revelations about God the Father & God the Son are packed into Jesus’ cry.
Simply incredible!
We are saved by an amazing God, unlike any other.
Respectfully,
Leon

Thanks so much for your perspective, Leon! I can see how men buy into the ‘believe in yourself’ or ‘pull yourself up by your bootstraps’ mentality. God bless!!

Hi Susan, landed here from Desiring God. Never mind that I’ve ended up spending a bit longer than I intended to :-), I’m indeed encouraged by your writing ministry, particularly as I noticed some things we have in common.
God bless!

Thank you so much, Sike! Just checked out your blog – and, yes, we do have much in common! I look forward to reading more of your posts! God bless you too!

This is bold. This is beautiful. It exalts Christ above all. Oh that we as mothers could be free to show our children the power of dependance upon Him!

Thanks so much Julie!! It’s a lesson in progress for me, too!
