Keeping it Real

Motherhood: It’s All Grace

Hi friends,

I haven’t posted for a while as the situation in India with Covid cases spiraling out of control has taken center stage in my mind and heart.

It’s been an overwhelming few weeks for all of us who live here. Covid is no longer a headline or an obscure statistic. It’s affecting our friends and family. It’s personal. It’s real.

But in the midst of all this, I know only the grace of God can see us through.

I thank God more than ever for the privilege of prayer. It’s been a lifeline to run to God every time (and it’s been too many to count) I feel overwhelmed or restless or anxious or fearful. Prayer is a place where I get to exchange my panic for His peace. By no means a fair exchange! But that’s His grace all over again!

To switch gears, but to continue to the thread of “only grace,” last month I got to write a couple of articles on motherhood.

The first piece on Her View From Home is about my mom who showed me that parenting is not about getting it right all the time. She showed me that it’s okay to make mistakes because we have the opportunity to show our children that we’re not perfect but there’s One who is. I’m grateful to my mom who keeps it super real and relatable. Click here to read the article.

I was also honored to be published for the first time on The Gospel Coalition. Totally a God thing and an unexpected but hugely welcome surprise. The article—’This Mother’s Day, Let God Change The Narrative’—speaks of how, as moms, parenting our children is a gift from God. It delves into our heart posture on Mother’s Day—whether we look at it from an “I deserve” perspective or recognize our calling as a blessing from God.

Here’s a little blurb from the article:

“That we have laundry to fold, dinner tables to set, and beds to make is an undeserved blessing from God. That we have children to raise, minister to, and share the Word with is an undeserved blessing from God. That we are equipped with grit and grace for this calling of motherhood is an undeserved blessing from God.”

Meanwhile, if you find yourself in this storm of the second wave of Covid in India, I pray that you would know the peace of God in the midst of the pain. May we keep our eyes fixed on Him and trust Him to get us through this too.

Thank you for sharing this Susan. It’s easy for people to forget there’s a whole world outside their doors and being able to share your struggles with me has blessed me today. In our Sunday School group yesterday, there were many tears as everyone opened up and shared testimonies and burdens with each other. It was as if you could feel God himself walk through the room and wake people up, make their hearts quicken, and there chests fill to bursting with words of love and encouragement. Have you ever felt that? A desire to pray for someone so strong It’s like a dam about to break inside your heart?

Thank you, Ariana. It means a lot to be able to share my burden with you, knowing that you are praying. It’s amazing that God would use us to pray for others with a love and concern that only He can give. May He continue to break our hearts for what breaks His. Many blessings, Susan
