Walking Alongside Anxiety—A Poem
Choking your joy, held in its grip,
Stealing your peace, it won’t let you slip.
Anxiety attacks.
I see you crumble, lose your sleep,
Yet, you don’t give up—even if you weep.
Anxiety hovers.
“It will be okay,” I want to say—
I don’t know how, God, please show us the way.
Anxiety persists.
The breakthrough awaits, heaven seems silent…
Yet, under the weight of ...
Can I Push Through?
Can I Push Through?
Can I push through the pain?
Discard the rejection?
Turn from self-pity?
Tell fear it doesn’t win?
Can I be like the woman?
Broken, bleeding—yet hopeful,
Twelve years an outcast,
Asking, “God, is this Your will?”
Can I push past the people?
Weave through the crowds?
Ignore the rude glances?
Seek help ‘coz I’m not too proud?
She came from behind Jesus,

Here’s Your Strategy for Tests
Exam season is upon us. When we first moved back to India from the US, I was faintly amused, perhaps even perplexed, by the panic that moms experienced over their kids’ exams. They stopped going out. They cut TV shows out of their lives. They shared prayer requests about their kids’ tests at church. They ...

As I write this little blog post, I’m sitting under the canopy of a magnificent Banyan tree about four ...
When You’re Feeling Breathless
Have you been sprinting on the treadmill of life without a pause? Perhaps you're out of breath and exhausted. But maybe you feel like you have no choice but to keep pushing harder.
For some, that looks like pulling endless hours at a thankless job.
For others, breathless sprinting looks like sleepless nights with cranky, clingy little ...
Why Risking Vulnerability is Worth It
A couple of weeks ago, I had the joy of attending my college reunion. It has been 25 years since we, the class of ’99, graduated from our programs. We were thrilled to see each other again. There were warm hugs, choruses of “hiiiii’s,” high-pitched screeches of excitement, and giggles like we were back in ...
The Heart of the Matter
I’m a wee bit embarrassed to share this story. But here goes.
About twenty-five years ago I was the youth fellowship leader at my church. One of the duties of our youth group was to organize the evening service at our church one Sunday a month. That meant I had to bribe and cajole my fellow ...
Crushing Discontentment—A 6-Day Devotional
It's always just around the corner.
The breakthrough. The answer. The thing that will satisfy you.
Your fingertips brush against it—it almost feels tangible. But it's just out of your grasp.
We all have those "if onlys" in our lives that we reach for for. When I was younger, I thought:
"If only I could be part of that ...
