Keeping it Real
The Time For Revival Is Now
As the world turns the spotlight on the revival taking place at Asbury University, I too am excited.
If you happen to have missed the news, on February 8th students of Asbury University in Kentucky gathered for their Wednesday chapel service. But instead of filing out at the end of the service, the students lingered on and the service continued.
It has been ten days since that first service but worship hasn’t ceased.
It’s a beautiful thing to see hundreds gather to exalt God.
It’s a beautiful thing to see hundreds humble themselves before Him.
It’s a beautiful thing to see hundreds set aside everything else to pursue God as He should rightly be pursued.
It’s a beautiful and inspiring thing.
I’m thousands of miles away from Kentucky but my heart is stirred with a yearning to experience that revival.
As the season of Lent begins, perhaps we may feel like we are thousands of miles away from the unfolding of events in Jerusalem that took place 2000 years ago. While we may long for revival, our hearts may have grown cold, even lifeless. We may have drifted away because of distractions. Revival seems to be for a different kind of person in a different kind of place.
But, friend, revival is not limited to a stage, a university campus, a city, or a country.
Revival is the cry of our hearts and it takes place in our hearts through the power of the Holy Spirit.
While revival can’t be manufactured, we can still make every effort to seek God—not by gritting our teeth but in response to His grace and through His power.
2 Peter 1 reminds us that “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life..,” but then the passage goes on to say, “Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.”
God gives us His power and then He requires our partnership.
He gives us His promises and then He requires our personal commitment.
He gives us aspects of His divine nature and then He requires our participation.
As Lent begins on Wednesday, February 22nd may we turn our attention and affections on what Christ has done for us on the Cross and then ask, “In response to Your love and grace, how can I partner with You, God? How can I commit to my calling? How can I participate in Your kingdom?”
Revival is a move of God that takes place through the Holy Spirit and the Word. But it requires that we are ready, receptive, and responsive.
If you feel compelled to pursue God more intentionally this season of Lent, may I invite you to join me in reading my 40-day Lent devotional, Journeying with Jesus on YouVersion. I have also created a free downloadable copy which you can print out and use for yourself or your small group here.
May our hearts be the stage where revival breaks out and may our worship continue unabated till we see Him face to face.

This is so encouraging Susan.. Thank you so much for pointing out that God works revival in our hearts and that we, too, can experience this daily even if we are far from Asbury.

Thank you, Jo. Love that. May we experience revival on a daily basis. Blessings, Susan

Praise, worship, and repentance—these are the ingredients of a heart seeking forgiveness, and Jesus is waiting with open arms. Jesus, please don’t pass us by. Just like the blind man (Mark 10) on the side of the road crying out to You for healing, we cry out to you in repentance and in faith. Thank You Lord Jesus You hear our prayers and are answering them.

Amen. Thank you for sharing that prayer, Brenda. I love that His Word says that His eyes range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. May He see us as we commit to Him. Blessings, Susan
